He’sbragging.Preening,really,comingmorealivewitheachpersonhetalkedto,fallingbackintohimselfwitheverypersonthatstopslookingathimasanextensionofhisfatherandstartstoseehimashisownperson.Ifnothingelse,Harryisgladhecamejusttohavethathappen.

“Still.”Harry’snotasgoodatthisashim.Hecannotsmileforthecamerasandmakeitlooknatural,hecannotforcelaughs,andhecannotremembernamesofpeoplehedoesnotplanoneverseeingagain.“Let’sfindRonandHermionebeforetheycomeback,alright?”

Dracopoutsabit,butthenheseesthenewwaveofpeoplecomingandhastenstoagree,cuttingalinethroughthetableuntiltheyfindwhereRon,Hermione,andtherestoftheWeasleysweresitting.

Harrysnorts.It’sfunny,butit’salsonot,becauseit’sbeenhardtoforgetthedayswhereeveryonewouldsneerathim,wheretheyallthoughtthathewascrazyandheardvoicesjusttocoverupthetruth,howsomanyofthemhidwhilehewasleadingthefight.

“Youjusthavetosmile.”There’sahandinhis,peelingbackhisfingers,padsofhisthumbssmoothingoverwherehisnailshaddugin,likeDracowastryingtomakehispaingoaway.“That’sallyouhavetodo.”

Hekeptsmiling.

Hesmiledwhentheysaidhisname,andhesmiledwhenhewovethroughthetables.Hesmiledwhentheyreachedouttotouchhim,theirfingersbrushinghisrobes,liketheyallwantedapieceofhim,sotheycouldgohomeandtelltheirneighborsandtheirkidsandtheirrelativesthattheyhadlaidahandonhisskin,liketheyhaveaclaimtohim.HesmiledwhenheshookhandswithKingsley,eventhoughhedidn’tsmileashisbraverywasrecountedandhewastoldhewouldbeacceptingthistokenoftheirgratitudeonbehalfofallthosewhohadfoughtinthewar,andhesmiledallthewaybacktohisseat.

“Youdidit.”DracohadonlystooduptoletHarrybackintohisseat,butforamoment,Harrywasoverwhelmedwiththefeelingofgratitudeforhim.Hecouldnothavedonethiswithouthim.“You’realldone.”

Harrypulledhimintoahug,eventhougheveryonewaswatching,eventhoughhecouldhearthepopsofcamerasgoinginthesidelines,eventhoughhewasawareoftherumorsitwouldstart.Hedidn’tcare.Hecouldpretendthatitwasabrotherlyhug,eventhoughitwasnothinglikethekindhewouldhavewithRon.Theywouldalljusthavetogetoverit.
